The Digital Notice Board: Communication in Residential Buildings
From pinboards to apps: How digital notice boards are modernising communication between property managers and tenants.
The internet is making its way into ever more areas of daily life. Today, it is perfectly normal to handle banking online or schedule a doctor’s appointment through a website. We think nothing of posting a photo of our breakfast at the new cafe around the corner to a friend’s social media wall.
Given this trend, it is hardly surprising that traditional media like the classic notice board in a building’s entrance hall have found their way online.
Tens of thousands of tenants across Austria already organise themselves through online platforms such as fragnebenan.at. These communities facilitate lively neighbourly exchanges — residents answer each other’s questions and arrange to meet for sports or social activities.
Property management companies, meanwhile, are adopting solutions like DSB (Digitales Schwarzes Brett) or dedicated property management apps. These tools help organise repairs, handovers, and much more. They can even display when the next bus departs from outside the building or what the weather forecast looks like for the day.
How far these different approaches can be integrated remains to be seen. One thing, however, is certain: the future of communication between residents and property management will be largely digital.
